Total Hours = ∑ Shift Minutes / 60

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does the calculator handle shifts spanning overnight past midnight?

If the end time is numerically earlier than the start time, the algorithm automatically adds 24 hours (1,440 minutes) to account for an overnight shift.

Are decimal hours different from hours and minutes?

Yes. Decimal hours express fractions of an hour as decimals (e.g., 7 hours 30 minutes equals 7.5 decimal hours), which is the standard format used for payroll processing.

Is lunch or break time legally required to be deducted?

Unpaid meal breaks (typically 30 minutes or longer) are standardly deducted from gross clock hours, whereas short rest breaks (5 to 20 minutes) are often considered paid work time under labor guidelines.

Can I calculate weekly timesheet totals with this tool?

Yes, you can add up to 7 or more custom shift rows to tally an entire weekly timesheet in a single calculation.
